Our Ancestral HomeThe town Juaso is the ancestral home of most members of JOCAUSA. Juaso is the district capital of the Asante Akyem, South district of the Ashanti Region of the Republic of Ghana. Juaso is situated on the eastern part of the Ashanti Regional capital city of Kumasi. It is the main gateway to the Eastern and the Greater Accra Regions of Ghana. The Juaso town is a farming community with a population of about 10, 000 residents. The district has 165 towns and villages with a population of over 100,000 people. Juaso & Asante NationJuaso is one of the six “principal” Ayoko stools or states in Ashanti (Asanteman). The six principal Ayoko stools or States in Asanteman history by Dr. K. A. Busia in the book, “The Position of the Chief in the Modern Political system of Ashanti” Appendix 1 are: Kumasi, Kokofu, Juaben, Bekwai, Nsuta and Juaso. Dr. K.A. Busia, who was the secretary to the “Historical Committee on Ashanti “and who was later on the Prime Minister of the Republic of Ghana during the second republic, was directed by His Majesty Otumfour Osei Agyeman Prempeh II, and Nana Owusu Sekyere Abunyaw, Mamponghene, Chairman and Vice Chairman respectively of the Historical Committee on Ashanti to write the book.
The six Principal Ayoko stools are referred to as “PIESIE” Ayoko stool because they were the first Ayoko stools to have emerged or migrated from Asantemanso in the Assumegya (“Suben Agya”) area to assist spiritually and physically in the establishment of Asanteman Unity or Nation, during the time of Opimso Osei Tutu I, Asantehene.
Juaso in the Colonial Ashanti & Gold Coast (Ghana)Juaso as a historical town in Ashanti and Gold Coast (Ghana) has played a pivotal role in the political history of the Ashanti Kingdom and during the British colonization of the Ashanti Kingdom.
Of the three powerful seats of government with District Commissioners (DC’s) after Kumasi during the domination of British Colonialists were Juaso, Bekwai and Mampong. Juaso played the role as education center; “ The Juaso Government School” as Law Enforcement Center, Juaso was known for its “ Police Force and Police Magistrate(PM) and the Circuit Court ”; as agricultural and forestry center,, “the Cocoa Station” and “ Forestry District” and as transportation Center, “ the Juaso Railway Station”.
